MEDLOG, the logistics arm for the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), has broken ground on a new multimodal terminal project near Paris, France. 

MEDLOG's Inland Terminal Paris-Bruyeres project will add infrastructure to facilitate rail and barge transportation of goods across the Greater East and Paris region of France, with trucks handling the last-mile portion of the journey. Currently, goods are moved through those areas entirely by road. The hope with the new inland terminal is to cut carbon emissions by reducing road miles. 

"It will provide an economic boost for the region, increasing containerization and raising productivity, as well as providing more direct access to MSC’s global network," MSC France CEO Philippe Lestrade said, adding that it will also support HAROPA PORT — the largest logistics hub in France — in its bid to carve out a "green logistics corridor" along the Seine River. 

MEDLOG is hoping to have the terminal handle one million twenty-foot-equivalent units a year by 2027, and will offer container maintenance and repair services, as well as services for liquid cargo, and container refurbishment for food exports. The project is scheduled to wrap up by the end of 2024.
