The American Trucking Associations (ATA) has thanked President Trump for revoking California’s “ruinous” electric vehicle mandates, praising it as “a major step forward for setting realistic and achievable national emissions standards.” “Today, common sense prevailed. We thank President Trump, EPA Administrator Zeldin, and congressional leadership for taking decisive action to end crippling, detached-from-reality rulemakings that would have imposed devastating economic consequences on American businesses and families,” said ATA President and CEO Chris Spear, in a statement released June 12. “This is not the United States of California. With the stroke of his pen, President Trump is restoring the certainty that the trucking industry needs to deliver for our nation as we continue to reduce our environmental impact.”

The resolutions, passed by Congress under the Congressional Review Act and signed June 12 by President Trump, roll back federal waivers granted to California under the Biden administration.
On June 20, the Guardian reported the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that fossil fuel companies can challenge California’s ability to set stricter standards reducing the amount of polluting coming from cars, in a case it says is set to unravel one of the key tools used to curb planet-heating emissions in recent years.
The supreme court voted by seven to two to back a challenge by oil and gas companies, along with 17 Republican-led states, to a waiver that California has received periodically from the federal government since 1967 that allows it to set tougher standards than national rules limiting pollution from cars. The state has separately stipulated that only zero-emission cars will be able to sold there by 2035.
A total of nine trucking industry leaders with ATA joined the President in the East Room of the White House for the signing ceremony, including three professional truck drivers from America's Road Team.
