Honeywell has released the Dolphin 9950, latest in the company's line of Dolphin 9900 mobile computers. The newest unit is equipped with ergonomic features for use in work environments that require large amounts of data capture and information management. It includes a pistol grip to facilitate the single-handed collection of data. Running Windows Mobile 6, the Dolphin 9950 includes Adaptus imaging technology for barcode scanning and picture taking. It has three keypad configuration options, including full alpha/numeric layout for warehouse and distribution environments, and a smaller keypad with shifted alpha/numeric functions for simple retail use. The lightweight unit is designed for scan-intensive environments such as back-end retail, warehousing, distribution and supply chain. It offers at least 10 hours of battery use, Honeywell claimed, and is suited for work in rough local environments. With an IP-64 rating, the 9950 is designed to survive five-foot drops to concrete and more than 2,000 three-foot tumbles. An extended lifecycle-management platform allows for migration from the Dolphin 9550 to the next-generation 9950 while keeping in place much of the legacy hardware, including accessories, batteries and device peripherals. In another company announcement, Honeywell has introduced Remote MasterMind (ReM), a remote scanner-management package that allows users to manage all scanners within a network from a single remote location. The browser-based standalone technology can be incorporated into any organization, the vendor said. It is compatible with more than 20 Honeywell scanning and mobility products; it also integrates with IBM's Remote Management Agent and can be administered via IBM Director.
