Of the 25 sectors of the U.S. economy identified as most affected by tariffs, 19 are in manufacturing, including automobiles, primary metals, chemicals, computers and electronics, machinery, and textiles. 

The deal announced on July 29 would put roughly 40% of the nation's rail freight in the hands of a single company.

The port's growth in 2025 was primarily fueled by a bump in cargo volumes that started in January, as businesses brought inventory in ahead of promised tariffs from the incoming Trump administration.
